Building network connections through cold calling

Long before the days of social media and email, to make a new connection in a target company, sales folks would simply pick up a phone and place a “cold call” to a business in hopes of making a new contact. Once a relationship was established, the focus would then turn toward developing new business opportunities.

LinkedIn Live Survival Kit

Meeting every other month, the triangle plays host to one of the fastest growing methods of professional networking. LinkedIn live, a 3-hour meeting of pure networking pressure is an opportunity to gather up 300+ local professionals and focus on building stronger connections within the community.  For an open networker and someone having a plethora of local contacts, it is a change to get face-to-face with more professionals than a month’s worth of one-on-one networking meetings.

Elizabeth's Arrival

Melissa’s c-section for our third child, Elizabeth is scheduled for 3/5/09 at 12:30pm. As this is the day AFTER Ethan’s birthday, we are hoping that she may choose to show up a little early- say for example in February. Both Olivia and Ethan are excited about their soon to arrive baby sister- they are incessantly talking about the baby in their tummies- just like the one in Mommy’s. We shall see what happens when she actually gets here!

A Little History

It’s the Christmas holidays and I’m taking a little time off from work. So, what does a guy who is employed by Cisco, has two fantastic kids and is expecting another one in March do during his time off?  A week off for me is a time to reflect on the past, to evaluate my strategy, look at decisions I’ve made, spend tons of time with my family, and to rethink the tactical things that consume all my time. The greatest part is reflecting on my whole life. I’m not the type of person that lives in the past, but let's face it, our history is a very familiar place and I have many great memories. In fact, during a recent late night, I walked down memory lane and would like to share it with you

The New Web Site

To all of my old friends and family, welcome back.   If you're new to this web site, then welcome.  Please excuse the dust on this web site.  It's been a while since have had an opportunity to work on it.  Quite frankly, most of the content is completely out of date.  Well, I think the story is a little longer than that...

Web 2.0 – Who are the technology leaders?

When I think about Web 2.0 companies and the strategic planning required enabling their success, I can’t help but consider the history of the term Web 2.0. I also question, who today’s technology leaders are? How should I quantify a technology leader? Should I consider the number or quality of modules built? Or is it by the innovative contribution to the community? And the questions go on and on.

Blogging: I can not believe that I’m doing this…

It is amazing how much time one can spend making notes. And to a certain degree, I’m a bit of an information pack rat. I save anything – from magazines, notes books, business cards and even little bits scraps paper. Why you ask, because there is a ton of very useful information and most of it will come in handy to someone you know somewhere in the future. I think I have forgotten or lost more information than I presently hold. As I get older (not too old now, please don’t go there) and start planning for the next ten years of life, I feel the need to change, evolve and continue to do things better than before.

What is the mother of all inventions?

What is the mother of all inventions? Is it the electric light bulb which was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879? Could it have been be telephone? Despite the ongoing dispute over its inventor, I believe that Alexander Bill should continue to take credit for his invention. Most regard the wheel as one of man’s most important inventions. And of course, we have to make mention of the caveman's greatest achievement – fire. You know what?
